Frustration of an irregular migration attempt via the Syrian coast

Syrian coast guard forces thwarted an irregular migration attempt along the coast, arresting a group of individuals who were preparing to leave the country aboard a boat in an illegal manner. According to the Syrian General Authority for Ports and Customs, via its Telegram channel, and as reported by the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), coast guard forces seized the boat used in the operation, along with a quantity of diesel fuel intended to power it and provide the necessary fuel for the smuggling operation.

Preliminary investigations revealed that some of those detained were linked to the former regime. Relevant authorities are continuing their investigations to uncover the circumstances of the operation, identify those responsible for organizing it, and determine all individuals involved, in preparation for taking the necessary legal measures against them.

The Authority noted that the operation reflects the high level of readiness and vigilance of the Syrian coast guard forces, as well as their role in monitoring territorial waters, securing the coastal strip, and combating attempts at human smuggling, irregular migration, and other illegal maritime activities through continuous patrols and surveillance operations.

Syrian coast guard forces continue to carry out their security and supervisory duties along the entire Syrian coastline, thereby enhancing maritime border security, protecting territorial waters, and contributing to the preservation of the safety and security of Syria’s coastal areas.
