Reham: Nepotism Did Not Get Me Into the Art World

Artist Reham Abdel Ghafour said in the “Microphone” podcast that having her father, the artist Ashraf Abdel Ghafour, in her life represented absolute protection and security, but at the same time it placed a significant responsibility on her shoulders. She noted that children of artists often find themselves in a defensive position to prove their talent and refute accusations of “nepotism” or entering the field merely due to family ties. She emphasized that they are usually more careful and aware of the responsibilities and ethics of their profession, driven by a desire to uphold their fathers’ names. Reham expressed her outright rejection of comparisons made by some social media pages between children of artists, explaining that such comparisons create unnecessary negative feelings among colleagues and friends, and that success is open to everyone, as tastes vary.
