Theater Transforms into a Pool, Offering an Unusual Summer Experience in the Heart of the German Capital

In a move that blends culture with public space, Berlin’s renowned Volksbühne theater has opened a temporary swimming pool in front of its headquarters at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, offering residents and visitors the chance to swim for free during the summer.

The 25-meter-long pool opened on August 7 and will remain operational until October 1, 2026. The theater provides free entry through online reservations for specific time slots, while organizing usage and providing necessary supervision for swimmers.

According to the official website of Volksbühne, the initiative aims to create an open space that brings together neighborhood residents and visitors in the heart of Berlin, coinciding with the launch of a new artistic management team.
