Ku achieves a global milestone at the International FIAP Black and White Photography Biennale in Brazil
Kuwait has achieved a new global milestone in the field of photography, delivering a distinguished participation in the 37th edition of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) Black and White Photography Biennale, Brazil 2026, amidst the involvement of an elite group of international photographers from around the world.
The Kuwait Association for Photography Arts stated in a statement to KUNA that the FIAP Biennale, recently held, saw participation from 33 countries with a total of 340 photographic works, with each country submitting 10 works by 10 photographers. These entries were evaluated by an international jury panel comprising photography art experts from Argentina, Spain, and Chile.
The association added that Kuwait secured sixth place globally, scoring 150 points in the overall evaluation, including 103 points for individual works and 47 points for artistic cohesion and consistency within the group, thereby ranking sixth worldwide.
Ten photographers represented Kuwait at this global forum: Majid Al-Zubaidi, Mohamed Murad, Talal Al-Rabiah, Mohamed Awad, Khalil Ndoum, Mohamed Khorshid, Yaqoob Al-Kandari, Mohamed Mirza, Mehdi Baqer, and Abdulaziz Al-Osaifi.
It was noted that Mohamed Awad, Kuwait’s representative to the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) and a board member of the Kuwait Association for Photography Arts, received the award during the federation’s events held in Brazil. The awards ceremony also featured an exhibition of the winning works from the Biennale.
Ireland took first place globally, winning the FIAP World Cup with 189 points, followed by Spain, Russia, Italy, and France. Kuwait came in sixth place globally, surpassing several countries with a prominent presence in the international photography scene.
The association highlighted that this achievement adds a new entry to Kuwait’s photographic record and underscores the high artistic level of Kuwaiti photographers, as well as their ability to compete and secure top positions at international forums, thereby contributing to enhancing Kuwait’s name on the global stage of photography art.
