Arab and Islamic welcome for the UN Security Council statement condemning the Houthi terrorist attacks on Saudi Arabia
The Saudi Ministry of Energy announced the extinguishing of a fire at one of the facilities belonging to an Aramco refinery in the Jazan region, located in the southwestern part of the Kingdom on the Red Sea coast. The ministry stated in a post on its official account on the “X” platform yesterday that industrial security firefighting teams affiliated with Aramco had put out the fire at one of the company’s facilities in Jazan, with no injuries reported. It added that the relevant authorities are completing the necessary procedures to address the incident.
Meanwhile, Gulf, Arab, and Islamic reactions continued to welcome the United Nations Security Council statement condemning the terrorist Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and commercial vessels, while emphasizing the importance of its insistence on respecting Yemen’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, and rejecting actions that threaten regional security and freedom of navigation, alongside calls to avoid escalation and support the political track to end the Yemeni conflict.
The Kingdom of Bahrain welcomed the Security Council statement, affirming its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its complete support for all measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty, security, stability, and vital interests, based on deep-rooted fraternal and historical ties, shared destiny, and the Gulf Cooperation Council’s Joint Defense Agreement. The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed in a statement that “the security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are an integral part of the security of the Kingdom of Bahrain and all Gulf Cooperation Council states.”
The ministry expressed Bahrain’s appreciation for the diplomatic, developmental, and humanitarian efforts undertaken by Saudi Arabia through its leadership of the “Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen,” aimed at achieving a comprehensive and sustainable political solution in accordance with the “Gulf Initiative,” its implementation mechanism, and the outcomes of the “National Dialogue Conference,” as well as relevant Security Council resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 2216, thereby preserving Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity. It also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s vital role in establishing the “Multinational Maritime Defense Coalition” to enhance maritime security, protect freedom of navigation and international trade, and ensure the security of global energy supplies.
Reiterating its position as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, the Kingdom of Bahrain renewed its call on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take a firm stance to deter the heinous terrorist attacks that threaten the security and safety of navigation and international trade, and undermine efforts to achieve security, stability, and peace in the region, in accordance with the rules of international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and within the framework of implementing relevant Security Council resolutions.
For its part, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the Security Council statement, commending its condemnation of Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and commercial vessels, and its affirmation of the necessity to respect international law and Security Council resolutions, as well as its rejection of actions that threaten regional security and maritime navigation. Qatar renewed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for the measures taken to protect its security and sovereignty, emphasizing that Saudi security is “an integral part of Qatar’s security and the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council states.”
In a related development, the Muslim World League welcomed the Security Council statement, commending its condemnation of Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia and commercial vessels. Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the League and President of the Council of Muslim Scholars, stated that the League reaffirms its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in all measures taken to protect its security, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens and residents on its territory, alongside support for the Yemeni government and international efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in Yemen.
