Egyptian agricultural exports surpass 6.2 million tons

Cairo - Khadija Hamouda: Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Alaa Farouq announced that Egypt’s total agricultural exports have surpassed the 6.2 million ton mark since the beginning of the current year, reflecting the distinguished international reputation enjoyed by Egyptian agricultural products across various global markets.

The Minister of Agriculture emphasized that these efforts demonstrate growing global market confidence in the quality and safety of Egyptian agricultural harvests, which have successfully met the highest health requirements and international standard benchmarks. He noted that this achievement is the result of strict supervision and continuous development of inspection and tracking mechanisms, making the Egyptian product a preferred choice and a strategic partner in the food security systems of many countries worldwide.

He affirmed that this progress stems from adherence to international quality standards and the implementation of coding and tracking systems, stressing the continuation of efforts to improve crop quality and enhance supply chain efficiency to ensure greater competitiveness in global markets. He highlighted the efforts undertaken by the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine, in coordination with relevant authorities within the ministry and foreign agricultural attachés, to open new markets for Egyptian products in Africa, Asia, and the Americas, while providing full technical support to farmers and exporters.

According to an official report issued by the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine under the Agricultural Services and Follow-up Sector, citrus fruits topped the list with a total of 2.3 million tons, followed by fresh potatoes in second place with approximately 918,000 tons, then regular potatoes with a quantity exceeding 235,000 tons, while grapes came in fourth with around 180,000 tons, and fresh onions ranked fifth with a quantity of 155,000 tons.

According to the same report, beans (both fresh and dry) ranked sixth with a quantity of approximately 136,000 tons, alongside a steady flow of Egyptian agricultural exports of strawberries, garlic, tomatoes, mangoes, guavas, and pomegranates, in that order.
