Wael Jasfar denies rift with Diab

Egyptian artist Wael Jasaar sparked widespread controversy in Egypt over the past few hours following his televised comments about the song “Al-Alwan” (The Colors) by artist Amr Diab, as well as by artist Amir Eid and the band Cairokey. He came under attack on social media platforms, insisting that his remarks were taken out of context and misunderstood.

In televised statements to Al-Shams TV channel, Jasaar said that his lack of familiarity with Amir Eid was not intended to diminish the latter’s value or artistic career, adding that he also accepts that some people may not know him, without considering it a personal insult.

Regarding followers’ claims that he criticized Amr Diab, Jasaar denied any rift, describing Diab as “a brother and friend with a distinguished legacy.” He clarified that his comments about “Al-Alwan” concerned the mismatch between that musical style and the texture of his voice and artistic approach, while affirming Diab’s superiority and mastery in performing that genre.
