Sultan Al-Abdani: Al-Anbaa learned that the Ministry of Social Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies, is preparing to implement the “Healthy Shopping” initiative in cooperative societies, as part of the project to combat non-communicable chronic diseases included in Kuwait’s Fourth Development Plan for 2025–2030.
According to a circular issued by the Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies to the boards of directors of the cooperatives, the initiative falls within the framework of community programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing health awareness and promoting a culture of proper nutrition among members of society, leveraging the widespread presence of cooperative societies as one of the most prominent daily shopping outlets for citizens and residents.
The initiative targets training fifth-grade students to make healthy purchasing decisions within cooperative societies, by introducing them to how to choose healthy food products and instilling proper dietary behaviors from an early age. The Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies called on the cooperatives to cooperate with specialized teams in the Ministry of Health, and to provide the necessary support and facilitation to ensure the success of the initiative and the implementation of the scheduled programs, thereby contributing to achieving its health and awareness objectives.
The circular emphasized the importance of acting in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s letter regarding the initiative, within the framework of cooperation between government entities and the cooperative sector to support prevention programs and enhance public health in society.
