GCC strongly condemns Iranian attack on UAE tanker in Hormuz Strait: Dangerous and unacceptable escalation

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Al-Budawi, expressed his condemnation today, Saturday, in the strongest and most severe terms of the dangerous Iranian attack targeting a tanker belonging to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) as it transited the Strait of Hormuz.

In a press statement, Al-Budawi said, “This attack represents a dangerous and unacceptable escalation and a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and international trade in one of the world’s most vital waterways.”

He firmly rejected any Iranian attempts to turn this vital international waterway into a tool for pressure and threats, calling on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take a firm stance to halt these dangerous attacks, prevent their recurrence, and ensure freedom and security of maritime navigation in accordance with the principles of international law, the law of the sea, and relevant international resolutions.

Al-Budawi emphasized the GCC’s full and steadfast solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, its standing by its side, and its support for all measures taken by the UAE to protect its security, sovereignty, assets, and interests.
