Egypt and UAE Explore New Opportunities for Investment and Trade Partnership

Cairo – Nahed Imad

As part of his participation in the 16th meeting of the BRICS trade ministers held in Jaipur, India, Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, continued his bilateral meetings with the trade ministers of member states. He held a meeting with Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Ziyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates, to discuss opportunities for developing economic, trade, and investment relations between the two countries.

Dr. Mohamed Farid emphasized the importance of continuing coordination between the Ministries of Investment and Foreign Trade in both countries, particularly in the fields of digital transformation and the automation of government services. He noted Egypt’s keenness to benefit from the UAE’s experience in developing electronic platforms and simplifying procedures for providing services to investors and business operators.

The two sides also discussed opportunities to enhance economic and trade cooperation in African markets, leveraging the potential possessed by both countries to develop joint initiatives and projects. This aims to strengthen their economic presence on the continent and open new avenues for the private sector.

They stressed the importance of reactivating the Egyptian-UAE Joint Business Council, considering it an important mechanism for enhancing communication between the business communities of the two countries, increasing mutual investments, and developing trade and investment partnerships.

In this context, Farid invited the UAE side to organize a visit by members of the UAE Council for Foreign Investors to Egypt, led by Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Ziyoudi, following the announcement of the council’s new formation. The visit aims to familiarize them with available investment opportunities and discuss establishing new partnerships in priority sectors.

He affirmed that Egypt offers promising investment opportunities across various sectors, supported by advanced infrastructure, industrial and logistics zones, as well as a wide network of free trade agreements that allow investors access to Arab, African, and European markets.

The Minister of Investment pointed to the significant development in trade relations between the two countries, noting that Egyptian exports to the UAE rose from approximately $1.22 billion in 2021 to about $6.99 billion in 2025, representing a growth rate of approximately 475%. Meanwhile, Egyptian imports increased from approximately $2.46 billion to about $2.69 billion during the same period.

He clarified that the total volume of bilateral trade reached approximately $9.68 billion in 2025, achieving a trade surplus in favor of Egypt of about $4.3 billion.

Both sides agreed to continue coordination in the coming phase, promote cooperation between the public and private sectors, and work on removing obstacles for investors, thereby contributing to opening new horizons for economic and investment partnership between Egypt and the UAE.
