Asala prepares to return to Damascus... Childhood memories lead her to the family home

Syrian artist Asala Nasri has announced her intention to visit Damascus this August, marking her first return to Syria in years. She emphasized that the trip represents, for her, a chance to relive childhood memories and reconnect with family and friends.

According to Russia Today, Asala expressed her wish that her return had unfolded according to the idealized conditions she had imagined in her mind. However, she decided that the purpose of her visit would be simple: to revisit the places tied to her childhood and meet with her loved ones.

She noted that her first stop would be her family’s home in the Maza district, followed by her grandmother’s house on Baghdad Street, which still holds a special place in her memory. There, she looks forward to recalling the details and atmosphere of the past with deep nostalgia.

Asala also spoke of her longing for Damascus’s traditional dishes, particularly “Tasqiya bil-Zayt” (a dish of rice cooked in oil), as well as Syrian peaches, which are closely linked to her memories. This visit comes as she continues her artistic activities, having recently released her new song titled “Asala,” thereby continuing her musical career that began in Damascus decades ago.
