A team of experts from Kuwait and seven countries approves a work plan to enhance the role of youth in development and peace efforts
The Arab Expert Team on Youth, Peace and Security, under the auspices of the League of Arab States, concluded its first meeting by adopting a regional roadmap to enhance the role of youth in peacebuilding and sustainable development efforts across the Arab region. In a statement, Faisal Ghsal, Director of the Youth and Sports Department at the Arab League and Minister Plenipotentiary, said the meeting was held in implementation of decisions by the Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports Council and in line with mechanisms for joint Arab action to develop national and regional policies and programs related to youth, peace, and security. Ghsal explained that the meeting discussed regional and national priorities and established an annual roadmap to strengthen the implementation of the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda at the regional level, alongside exchanging best practices and expertise, reviewing methodologies, lessons learned, and challenges related to implementation at the national level. He added that the Expert Team is working on preparing an executive program by 2027, in alignment with the Arab Strategy and its action plan, contributing to enhanced coordination among Arab states and supporting efforts to empower youth and involve them in peacebuilding initiatives. Ghsal reaffirmed the Arab League’s commitment to continuing its efforts to empower Arab youth and provide the necessary institutional frameworks to implement the outcomes of the meeting, noting that the recommendations issued in this regard will be submitted to the Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports Council for approval. The League reiterated its dedication to supporting joint Arab action and enhancing the role of youth as active partners in shaping the future and achieving peace and sustainable development in the Arab region. The Expert Team includes representatives from Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Somalia, Libya, Egypt, and Morocco.
