Messi tops the scorers list in the Kuwaiti Super Cup

Argentine star Lionel Messi has become the top scorer in the Leagues Cup, the annual tournament that brings together clubs from the American and Mexican leagues, after leading Inter Miami to a 4-2 home victory over Atletico San Luis in the opening round of the group stage of the 2026 edition.

Messi, who helped Miami secure the 2023 title during his first weeks with the club, increased his tally in the competition to 14 goals, surpassing Los Angeles FC’s Gabonese winger Denis Bouanga by one goal. David Rodriguez opened the scoring for the Mexican side in the fourth minute, before Messi equalized seven minutes later. Venezuelan midfielder Tealab Segovia put Miami ahead in the 26th minute, and Messi added his second goal just before halftime. Brazilian defender Micael made it 4-1 in the final seconds of the first half. Spanish forward Rafa Yurente scored a second goal for Atletico San Luis in the second half, but it was not enough to change the result.

In other matches, Dallas defeated Queretaro 2-0, while Leon beat Nashville 1-0.
