Yasmin Sabry withdraws from the series "Al Shadr"

Producer Duaa Salah revealed new details regarding the collapse of the series “Al-Shader,” clarifying that actress Yasmine Sabry’s withdrawal from the lead role stemmed from a dispute with the late director Sameh Abdel Aziz during rehearsals, which ultimately led to the complete halt of the project.

Speaking as a guest on the program “Mirror,” Salah expressed her enthusiasm for seeing Yasmine in the role, particularly because it would have marked the actress’s first portrayal of a girl from Alexandria. She was surprised, however, by news of Yasmine’s resignation while she was in Dubai, following a call from her producing partner, Mona Qotb. Salah noted that the crisis began during one of the table reads, when director Sameh Abdel Aziz asked Yasmine to adjust her performance and vocal tone to better suit the folk character. He then directed sharp criticism at her, saying, “You’ll embarrass us; you’ll make people laugh at us.” Yasmine could not accept this, leading her to decide to withdraw from the project.

Salah pointed out that producer Mona Qotb had asked Yasmine Sabry to delay announcing her withdrawal to allow the company time to hire a replacement. However, the actress announced her resignation before this step was completed, causing confusion in the production plan. Salah also revealed that Sameh Abdel Aziz had suggested actress Romy for the lead role after Yasmine’s exit, but Romy also declined. Consequently, the project was abandoned and never materialized, despite the completion of a significant portion of the preparatory work.
