Pakistani Prime Minister Arrives in Saudi Arabia to Discuss Regional Developments and Enhance Multilateral Cooperation

Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at the start of a three-day official visit. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that Sharif was greeted upon his arrival at King Abdulaziz International Airport by Prince Saud bin Mishal, Deputy Emir of the Makkah Region.

Earlier, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Prime Minister and Army Chief Asim Munir had traveled to Saudi Arabia on an official visit to discuss regional and international developments of mutual interest. In a statement, the ministry said Sharif was accompanied by a high-level delegation that also included several ministers, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, whose arrival in Medina had already been announced. The ministry shared an image of Dar praying at the Prophet’s Mosque and visiting Mount Uhud.

It added that “the talks will focus on strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as exchanging views on regional and international developments of mutual interest.” The ministry emphasized that “this visit embodies the historical partnership between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is built on decades of trust, cooperation, and mutual brotherhood.” The statement said, “Although the visit comes amid rising tensions in the Gulf, it carries significance that transcends current crises and short-term considerations.” It clarified that the visit “will strengthen bilateral relations, deepen strategic cooperation, enhance coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest, and support multilateral cooperation.”

In parallel, Islamabad confirmed its continued efforts to reach a comprehensive and sustainable resolution regarding the Strait of Hormuz. It expressed hope that the agreement announced by Tehran with the Sultanate of Oman would lead to the resumption of talks between the United States and Iran, within the framework of a memorandum of understanding that Islamabad helped mediate.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi told journalists, “We hope that the agreement on the strait will pave the way for continued dialogue, particularly the resumption of technical-level talks between Iran and the United States.” He added, “We remain engaged with other countries regarding the crisis in the Middle East and the situation in Hormuz. Our diplomatic efforts continue to reach a comprehensive and sustainable resolution regarding the strait.”

Tehran announced two days ago that it had reached an agreement with Oman on a new pathway for the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
