Kuwaiti resilience in the face of attacks: Unity breaks the back of terrorism

It is a blessing from God that Kuwait has always been an oasis of security and stability, surrounded by the efforts of its loyal sons. However, major challenges and external threats have repeatedly tested the resilience of the nation’s people. This resilience was tested during the terrorist attacks in the 1980s that targeted the motorcade of the late, by God’s leave, former Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad (may God have mercy on him), and during the brutal Iraqi invasion and the subsequent attacks and crises, the latest of which were the criminal Iranian attacks that targeted the country’s territory, assets, vital infrastructure, including power generation and water desalination plants, as well as government and oil facilities.

Targeting these vital facilities, especially under harsh climatic conditions where summer temperatures exceed 50 degrees Celsius, is not merely an act of blatant aggression against national sovereignty; it constitutes a humanitarian crime in the truest sense of the word. Cutting off water and electricity to civilians—families, children, patients, and the elderly—in the heart of the scorching Gulf summer reflects a complete disregard for the most basic moral and human values, and directly threatens the lives of the innocent population. Nevertheless, these criminal acts have only strengthened the resolve and steadfastness of the Kuwaiti people and their institutions.

What further bolsters the citizens’ resilience is their unity around the political leadership and the standing of Kuwaiti citizens, particularly those in the Kuwaiti Armed Forces and the General Fireforce, as an impenetrable barrier and a fortress to protect the homeland. God bless these heroes, who demonstrated high competence and complete vigilance in repelling and thwarting the brutal Iranian attacks before they could achieve their base objectives of terrorizing civilians and destroying the state’s assets. The brave firefighters rushed with great courage to address any collateral damage with professionalism and exceptional speed, thereby minimizing losses to the lowest possible level.

Nor can we overlook the great role and tremendous efforts exerted by the Ministry of Interior and police officers in maintaining internal security, enforcing the rule of law, and instilling a sense of reassurance in the hearts of citizens and residents. The security establishment has set the finest examples of vigilance and readiness, thereby blocking any attempts to sow chaos or undermine internal stability and eliminating terrorist cells and the fifth column.

We must also not forget every citizen or expatriate who answered the call of duty to stand in the front lines to protect Kuwait and ensure the continuity of life there with ease, including employees of power and water stations, oil company staff, and others.

This unique cohesion between the wise leadership and the authentic Kuwaiti people is the true secret behind Kuwait’s enduring strength and invincibility. The Kuwaiti people, across all segments, have stood as one solid front, overcoming all challenges with a high spirit of patriotism and unparalleled social solidarity. This stable and cohesive domestic front has been, and remains, the rock upon which all conspiracies and attacks since the inception of Kuwait have shattered.

We ask God, the Almighty, to protect the State of Kuwait and its noble people from all harm, to perpetuate upon it the blessings of security, safety, and stability, to accept its righteous martyrs, and to protect its security forces and army with a vigilant, sleepless eye guarding the soil of this pure homeland.
