Kuwait Endures

We recall with deep pain and sorrow the anniversary of the unjust Iraqi invasion of our country, Kuwait, on August 2, 1990. In an act of treachery, betrayal, and arrogance, the Iraqi army launched a sudden military offensive under the orders of the late tyrant and criminal Saddam Hussein, who claimed to be the protector of the Arab world’s eastern gateway. He violated Islamic and Arab principles, as well as norms of neighborliness and brotherhood, desecrating sanctities through killing, destruction, and looting of all property. However, by God’s grace, his army was humiliated, defeated, and routed in the Kuwait Liberation War, in which most countries of the world participated. Kuwait demonstrated its capacity to bring down the regime in Iraq.

The devastating effects of this invasion remain as an unforgettable lesson for future generations. Tensions continue to persist in the Gulf region, and Iraq still suffers from the repercussions of these wars and crises.

On this painful anniversary, we proudly and proudly record the stance of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia—its leadership, government, and people. Saudi Arabia hosted the Kuwaiti people and their leadership, led the Arab coalition, and coordinated with all Gulf Cooperation Council states, which contributed every effort to hosting the Kuwaiti people and liberating Kuwait. We also acknowledge all Arab countries that stood with Kuwait’s just cause, as well as friendly nations, foremost among them the United States of America, which contributed to liberating our country from the unjust Iraqi invasion.

In these days, Kuwait is facing blatant attacks with missiles and drones from Iran and its proxies in the region, who have not learned from the example of the neighbor who attacked our country and received the punishment they deserved.

Prince Khalid Al-Faisal demonstrated poetic brilliance when he said:

“He who sows will reap, and the day of harvest has come.

The oppressor will drink the cup of bitterness.

The enemy of God approaches the day of reckoning.

Kuwait has accounts and debts we will settle.

You are the strength of the hard days.

Your legacy betrays the brother who rests.

You betrayer of gratitude, the worst of creatures.

You did not uphold your neighbor’s rights, you O transgressor.

You violated honor and spread corruption.

May your hands be ruined, and may you repent for what you corrupted.

Kuwait remains steadfast, and whoever wishes evil for it will face annihilation and destruction, by God’s grace and through the unity and resolve of its people and leadership, which exemplify outstanding national cohesion and wisdom.

May God protect Kuwait and its people from all harm and evil, and may He perpetuate upon it the blessings of security, safety, and stability. Kuwait will remain free under its people and will not be shaken by hardships or aggression.
