Salah officially joins Trabzonspor on a two-year contract

Egyptian star Mohamed Salah officially joined Turkish club Trabzonspor today by signing a two-year contract, after nine eventful years and nine titles won in Liverpool colors. Trabzonspor, which will play in the Europa League qualification playoffs later this month, announced that the 34-year-old player signed a “two-year contract,” clarifying in a statement that Salah, who was the second-highest-paid player in the English Premier League last season, will earn 17 million euros annually without counting performance bonuses, a record figure in the Turkish league. The club added that the right winger will also receive 20% of the revenue from the sale of shirts and promotional products bearing his name. The “Pharaohs” captain and star player received a champion’s welcome from thousands of fans yesterday, Wednesday, in the city of Trabzon (northeastern Turkey), and is scheduled to participate in a “signing ceremony” this Thursday evening in front of the crowd at the club’s stadium. The new number 10 at Trabzonspor said: “Wherever I go, I win something or try to win something... I hope we can achieve beautiful things in the league and in European competitions as well.” After playing in Egypt, Switzerland, Italy, and England, Salah will embark on his fifth different domestic league experience in his career. Salah scored 257 goals in 442 matches for Liverpool, with whom he won two English Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League title. However, his last season with Liverpool was far from his usual standards, although this did not affect his great popularity at Anfield. Trabzon last won the Turkish league title in 2022, and it is the only club from the Anatolian region capable of competing with Istanbul’s three giants (Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, and Beşiktaş).
