Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, and Pakistan: The Importance of Unity to Ensure the Safety of the Straits of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb
On Wednesday, a quadrilateral meeting was held in the Jordanian capital of Amman, bringing together the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, and Pakistan. The gathering emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts to ensure the safety of waterways and freedom of navigation in the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, thereby contributing to the stability of supply chains and energy markets.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the fifth meeting of the four regional parties in Amman, alongside Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Expatriates Affairs, and Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Affairs; Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan; and Hakan Fidan, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey.
The agency added that the Saudi Foreign Minister discussed with his counterparts the latest developments in the regional situation, the importance of continuing efforts and intensifying joint coordination, and unifying positions on current regional issues.
The ministers underscored the importance of concerted efforts to ensure the safety of waterways in the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, guaranteeing freedom of maritime navigation and contributing to the stability of supply chains and energy markets. They commended the initiative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to establish a multinational defensive maritime coalition to enhance maritime security, protect international sea lanes, and counter threats targeting international navigation and trade.
The ministers also discussed efforts to de-escalate tensions and address current security challenges, the necessity of continuing to support diplomatic solutions, and the mediation efforts of Pakistan and Qatar. They emphasized strengthening all measures that respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, thereby preserving the security and stability of the region.
