Interior Ministry: Egyptian doctor specializing in abortions arrested at his clinic

The Ministry of Interior announced that the Criminal Security Sector, represented by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations, had arrested an Egyptian national working as a gynecologist for exploiting his profession to perform illegal abortions and to provide abortion pills in exchange for money. In a statement, the Ministry said the arrest of the expatriate was part of security efforts to apprehend lawbreakers, noting that information had been received indicating that the suspect was carrying out these activities in his private clinic and receiving payment in cash or through bank transfers. Accordingly, further investigations were conducted, which confirmed the accuracy of the information received.

The Ministry stated that a sting operation was set up, involving an agreement with the suspect to supply abortion pills and to schedule a meeting at his clinic. After obtaining the necessary legal authorization, he was arrested. A search of the suspect’s residence yielded 49 abortion pills and 115 psychotropic tablets. When confronted with the findings of the investigations, the suspect confessed to the charges and admitted that he had illegally imported the pills from abroad.

The Ministry emphasized that the suspect and the seized items had been referred to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal actions, and reiterated that it would not tolerate anyone who uses their profession as a means to gain financial profit in violation of the law and in a manner that undermines societal security.
