An Integrated Water Management System for the Industrial Sector

Cairo - Nihad Imam and Hanaa El-Sayed Dr. Hany Sweilem, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Eng. Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, and Dr. M. Salah Jumblatt, Minister of State for Military Production, met at the headquarters of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in the New Capital to discuss a comprehensive system for the sustainable management of water in the industrial sector, improving its efficiency, and localizing technologies related to water treatment and recycling within factories.

At the outset of the joint meeting, Sweilem thanked the Ministers of Industry and Military Production for their constructive cooperation on shared files, emphasizing the Egyptian state’s commitment to integrating water resource sustainability considerations into industrial expansion plans.

The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation stated that the state aims to support industrial development and treat water as a strategic resource that must be managed efficiently, by providing technical and planning solutions that allow for industrial expansion while preserving water resources and maximizing the economic return for every cubic meter.

He clarified that maximizing the added value of water in the industrial sector contributes to supporting the national economy, provided that the highest standards of usage efficiency are adhered to, losses are minimized, and water recycling is expanded within industrial facilities.

He stressed that feasibility studies for industrial projects must include an accurate assessment of water needs, sources of supply, usage efficiency, and treatment and recycling systems, so that water becomes a fundamental element in industrial planning equations.

For his part, Eng. Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, affirmed that as the industrial sector is the engine of sustainable development, it bears the responsibility of preserving natural resources and maximizing their utilization, especially since the Ministry of Industry has an ambitious strategy to expand and localize the industrial base.

In turn, Dr. Salah Jumblatt, Minister of State for Military Production, confirmed that, in implementation of the political leadership’s directives to enhance water resource management efficiency and deepen local manufacturing, the Ministry of Military Production is placing the manufacturing, technological, and technical capabilities of its affiliated companies at the service of this vital file, actively participating in the implementation of water treatment and desalination plant projects, and expanding local production of their components.
