US President praises Qatar and its Emir for supporting diplomatic efforts and facilitating dialogue among the parties

His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, reviewed with U.S. President Donald Trump the latest regional developments, particularly the efforts to de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran and to bridge differences between them, thereby enhancing the prospects of reaching a sustainable diplomatic settlement to the crisis. The Qatar News Agency (QNA) stated that the U.S. President praised, in a telephone conversation with His Highness the Emir, the role played by Qatar in leading diplomatic efforts, facilitating dialogue among parties, and contributing to enhanced security and stability in the region.

For his part, His Highness the Emir emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue and relying on diplomatic means to address contentious issues, as well as the necessity for all parties to adhere to the agreements reached under the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, and to support international initiatives aimed at containing tensions, thereby contributing to the consolidation of peace and security at both the regional and international levels. The two sides also discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, reaffirming the importance of continued coordination and consultation on regional and international developments in a manner that serves the interests of the two friendly countries.

In a related development, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty on the sidelines of the Arab Ministerial Committee meeting tasked with international action to confront illegal Israeli policies and measures in occupied Jerusalem, which was held in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

The meeting reviewed bilateral cooperation relations and ways to support and strengthen them, as well as the latest regional developments, particularly joint Arab coordination to confront Israeli escalation targeting occupied Jerusalem, along with diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and enhancing security and stability in the region.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister stressed the necessity for all parties to commit to dialogue and diplomacy, and to implement the agreements reached under the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding, including ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, to preserve regional security, safeguard achieved gains, and enhance regional stability. He reiterated Qatar’s full support for all efforts aimed at defusing tensions and reaching a comprehensive agreement that achieves sustainable peace in the region.
