Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre: A 'Journey' into the Spirit of Theatre

The production “Journey” was more than a fleeting theatrical experiment; it appeared as an invitation to reflect on the meaning of the path a person travels and the dreams they carry, regardless of how the stations change. On the stage of the Studio Theater at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center, participants presented the fruits of the “Rehearsal Number One” program, affirming that genuine training can create productions that pulse with ideas rather than mere decoration.

The performance was rooted in a philosophical vision that placed the actor at the center of the narrative. There were no grand sets or distracting effects; instead, the human presence relied on body, voice, and emotion to construct a complete world through the artist’s imagination and ability to connect with the audience. The story begins inside an airport waiting lounge, where everyone is preparing to travel, before the flight is canceled due to a technical malfunction. However, this event served only as a gateway to a different kind of journey. The truth the production sought to convey was that the most important journeys do not begin at airports, but on the stage, and within the human spirit when one decides to confront oneself and continue walking despite setbacks.

Behind this experience stands the veteran theater director Abdullah Abdulrasool, who continued his commitment to discovering young talent, believing that the future of theater begins in an authentic training workshop and through opportunities that allow talents to express themselves and confidently take their first steps on stage.
