Ministry of Commerce: 1,398 violation reports issued in July, including 212 for failure to use Arabic
Kuwait officials: The Commercial Control Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry recorded 1,398 violation reports in July, resulting from complaints submitted to the ministry and inspection tours conducted by control teams across various commercial activities and establishments.
The most common violation was the failure to use Arabic, with 212 reports, followed by failure to display prices, with 145 reports, and then deception or fraud regarding the type, origin, composition, or expiration date of goods, with 95 reports.
Subsequently, there were 71 reports for failing to display an Arabic advertisement explaining the return and exchange policy, 65 reports for operating a business without a license from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, 57 reports for inaccurate commercial data on goods and their country of origin, and another 57 reports for failing to comply with Arabic labeling on product packaging or containers.
The ministry recorded 56 reports for publishing advertisements containing incorrect specifications, data, or prices for goods or services, and 40 reports for the absence of a sign indicating the type and condition of meat. Additionally, there were 39 reports for failing to list meat types and food prices on restaurant menus, 34 reports for displaying and selling vegetables and fruits with unclear information, and 28 reports for refusing to provide an invoice to the consumer.
Inspection teams also documented 24 reports related to subsidized flour prices, 22 reports for selling counterfeit goods such as gifts, accessories, shoes, watches, bags, and other items, and 22 reports for conducting discounts or special offers without a license. Furthermore, there were 21 reports for violations of essential invoice data, 17 reports each for charging multiple prices for a single item and for violations related to energy drinks.
The violations also included 17 reports for breaching agreed-upon terms regarding goods or merchandise, 15 reports for failing to comply with gold jewelry labeling requirements, 15 reports for failing to indicate the country of origin of vegetables and fruits, 13 reports for goods making unauthorized medical claims, and 13 reports for failing to display price signs in commercial promotions.
The statistics also encompassed violations related to prohibited goods, subsidized products, counterfeit items, car rentals, cash transactions, smoking, food markets, and commercial fraud, reflecting the ongoing control campaigns conducted by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to enhance consumer protection, regulate markets, and ensure that commercial establishments comply with applicable laws and regulations.
