Qatar's Foreign Ministry: Our efforts continue with all parties to de-escalate tensions

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Majid Al-Ansari, stated that “the focus now is on de-escalation, opening the Strait of Hormuz, and pursuing the diplomatic track.” Al-Ansari added during his regular press conference: “We can confirm that efforts are ongoing with all parties to de-escalate tensions in the region.” He pointed out that “so far, no agreement has been reached, and what matters at present is returning to the diplomatic track,” emphasizing that to achieve this, “a ceasefire must be ensured and the Strait of Hormuz must be opened.” Al-Ansari noted that Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov regarding de-escalation efforts in the region, and reaffirmed Qatar’s support for initiatives aimed at reaching a comprehensive agreement that would bring peace to the region. He added that Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman stressed the necessity for all parties to commit to dialogue and to implement the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran last June. Qatar, alongside Pakistan, is leading mediation efforts to conclude a final agreement that would end the war. Doha’s and Islamabad’s initiatives led to the memorandum of understanding, which helped prevent further escalation of the conflict in recent days.
