Leeds overturn Liverpool

Dominic Calvert-Lewin led Leeds United from two goals down to a convincing 4-2 victory over Liverpool in a friendly match played yesterday at Soldier Field in Chicago, United States. The match marked Liverpool’s first defeat under their new Spanish manager, Andoni Iraola, who took charge this summer following the departure of Dutch coach Arne Slot.

Liverpool began their US tour with two consecutive wins: a 4-2 victory over Sunderland and a 1-0 win against Welsh side Wrexham at Yankee Stadium. Liverpool dominated the first half, taking a two-goal lead through Milos Kerkez (7th minute) and Florian Wirtz (40th minute), before Leeds United staged a second-half comeback with an impressive attacking display to overturn the scoreline.

American player Brenden Aaronson sparked Leeds’ comeback with a goal in the 60th minute, before Calvert-Lewin equalized in the 71st minute. Just two minutes later, Sean Longstaff restored Leeds’ lead with a low shot in the 73rd minute, and Calvert-Lewin sealed the victory by scoring his second goal of the match in the 85th minute.

This was Leeds United’s second win of their US tour, after they started with a 3-2 defeat to Wrexham in Tampa, Florida, followed by a 1-0 victory over Sunderland in New Jersey.
