The Kuwait Stock Exchange recorded capital market gains of 930.5 million dinars during the first two sessions of the current week, reflecting a direct improvement in investor appetite and a return of confidence to financial markets as the pace of military tensions between the United States and Iran subsided. This development alleviated the heightened anticipation and caution that had weighed on markets in recent periods.
Positive financial results announced by listed companies, led by banks, supported the upward momentum, prompting investors to rebuild their investment positions in many stocks that had faced selling pressure and price declines in previous days. Trading showed an expansion in buying activity to include leading stocks in the First Market, alongside a large number of companies in the Main Market. Investors moved to seize investment opportunities in firms that reported positive operational performance indicators or achieved profit growth, thereby accelerating the upward trend and boosting market capitalization.
Capital gains were distributed evenly between the First and Main Markets in absolute value terms. However, the Main Market delivered the strongest relative performance when gains were measured against market size and the market capitalization of its constituent companies. This reflects a clear return of liquidity to mid-cap and small-cap stocks, making them the primary beneficiaries of improved investment sentiment during the past two sessions.
The total capital value of all companies listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange rose to 53.346 billion dinars by the close of trading on Monday, compared with 52.415 billion dinars at the end of trading on the previous Thursday. This added approximately 930.5 million dinars to the market in just two sessions, underscoring the speed with which investors responded to positive developments, both in the geopolitical landscape and in corporate earnings.
The First Market captured a significant portion of these gains. The capital value of listed companies in this segment increased by 457.24 million dinars to reach 44.062 billion dinars by the close of trading on Monday, up from 43.605 billion dinars at the end of Thursday’s session. The First Market alone added approximately 243.2 million dinars to its capital value during Monday’s session, supported by the positive performance of leading stocks, particularly banks, which continued to attract the attention of investment portfolios and funds.
Conversely, the Main Market recorded exceptional performance. The capital value of listed companies in this segment rose by approximately 474.8 million dinars to reach 9.285 billion dinars, compared with 8.810 billion dinars at the end of Thursday’s trading. Notably, the Main Market achieved capital gains of 460.4 million dinars during Monday’s session alone, accounting for the majority of its gains over the first two sessions of the week. This reflects strong demand for its stocks and an expansion in selective buying, especially since many of its companies had experienced sharp declines in recent periods, making their price levels more attractive to investors.
Positive performance extended across all market indices. The General Market Index rose by 1.33%, or 117.39 points, to close at 8,913.85 points, supported by the strong performance of the Main Market, which jumped by 5.22%, or 457.42 points, to reach 9,216.48 points in one of its strongest sessions recently. Meanwhile, the First Market Index rose by 0.55%, or 51.07 points, to close at 9,312.08 points.
This performance reflects a clear shift in investor strategy, moving from a focus solely on defensive stocks to broadening investment to include operational stocks in the Main Market, benefiting from reduced regional risks and improved corporate results. It also indicates that liquidity is becoming more willing to return to stocks that experienced unjustified declines in the past, which could provide additional momentum to the Kuwait Stock Exchange if corporate results continue to exceed expectations and geopolitical conditions move toward greater stability.
