Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations Completes Preparations for Launching First Diploma in Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety

As part of the ongoing preparatory stages for launching the Diploma in Quality and Safety in Healthcare, the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specialties (KIMS) conducted interviews to select the first cohort of clinical trainers participating in the program. This initiative is part of broader efforts to prepare qualified national cadres and enhance concepts of quality and patient safety in healthcare institutions.
The program represents the first specialized diploma offered by KIMS focused on healthcare service quality and patient safety. It aligns with the Ministry of Health’s direction toward developing vocational education and training, and qualifying national competencies capable of leading quality improvement initiatives and elevating the standard of healthcare services.
Program Director Dr. Hisham Kalander emphasized that the diploma constitutes a significant step in building national capacities by equipping healthcare practitioners with the knowledge and skills necessary to apply best practices in quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety enhancement. This contributes to supporting sustainable institutional development and improving the efficiency of healthcare services.
He clarified that the selection of clinical trainers was based on a comprehensive scientific and professional evaluation process, relying on academic qualifications and practical experience, as well as proficiency in education, training, and supervision, alongside professional performance standards and adherence to professional conduct. This ensures the achievement of high-quality training outcomes.
On her part, Program Assistant Director Dr. Ghaida Fuad Al-Salem affirmed that clinical trainers play a fundamental role in the program’s success through supervising trainees, linking academic content to practical application in workplace settings, and providing continuous support and guidance throughout various training stages.
She added that the initial meeting reviewed the program’s objectives, clarified the roles and responsibilities of clinical trainers, and outlined teaching, supervision, and evaluation mechanisms. These efforts aim to standardize educational practices, ensure the quality of the training process, and achieve targeted outcomes in accordance with the highest professional standards.
