Al-Hawila: Integration of government efforts to improve Kuwait's ranking in the Women and Business Index

Dr. Amthal Al-Huwail, Minister of Social Affairs, Labor, and Social Security and Chair of the Women’s Affairs Committee, emphasized the importance of integrating government efforts and accelerating implementation to improve Kuwait’s ranking in the World Bank’s “Women, Business and the Law” index. This statement came during an interview with Minister Al-Huwail at the opening of a workshop on the index, attended by members of the Women’s Affairs Committee and representatives of relevant government entities, as part of national efforts to enhance Kuwait’s international standing.

She noted that the committee is working in coordination with relevant authorities to study the index’s requirements and prioritize actions, enabling the completion of possible amendments and procedures in the coming period and contributing to raising the country’s ranking ahead of the evaluation scheduled for October next year.

Al-Huwail added that the significance of this index extends beyond the World Bank’s ranking, as it is linked to several international commitments and indicators, including the Beijing Platform for Action, the Gender Gap Index, and the Sustainable Development Goals. Improving its results thus reflects Kuwait’s progress in empowering women.

She explained that an inventory of required amendments for each entity, according to its jurisdiction, has been prepared. She clarified that the current priority is to swiftly enact measures that can be approved quickly, particularly decisions, regulations, and administrative procedures, while simultaneously completing legislative amendments that require longer timeframes.

Al-Huwail stressed the necessity of working with a spirit of teamwork to strengthen Kuwait’s presence in relevant international indices and reports, affirming that achieving this goal requires the cooperation of all entities and the prompt execution of required procedures within each entity’s jurisdiction before the next evaluation deadline.
