General Federation of Workers: The strength of nations lies in the cohesion of their peoples, and the loyalty and fidelity of their sons to their homeland
The General Union of Kuwaiti Workers affirmed that on August 2 of each year, Kuwait recalls one of the most painful and luminous milestones in its modern history, when it was subjected on August 2, 1990, to a criminal Iraqi invasion that constituted a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter, and a flagrant assault on the sovereignty, security, and stability of an independent state.
In a statement marking the 36th anniversary of the brutal Iraqi invasion, the Union said: “On this eternal national occasion, the President and members of the Executive Council of the General Union of Kuwaiti Workers, professional unions, labor unions, the Kuwaiti labor movement, and the working class of Kuwait extend their highest expressions of condolences for the souls of the nation’s righteous martyrs who sacrificed their lives in defense of Kuwait, praying to Almighty God to envelop them in His boundless mercy.”
It added that during that ordeal, the Kuwaiti people wrote the finest examples of resilience, dignity, and national cohesion, offering a unique model of sacrifice and devotion. All segments of society united behind the legitimate political leadership, confident in the justice of their cause and steadfast in their legitimate right to reclaim the homeland, until victory and liberation were achieved on February 26, 1991. Kuwait returned free, proud, and dignified, thanks to the will of its sons and the support of its brothers and friends.
The General Union of Kuwaiti Workers emphasized that national unity and rallying around wise leadership have always been, and remain, the fundamental pillar that has safeguarded Kuwait from dangers, consolidated its security and stability, and proven that the strength of nations lies in the cohesion of their people, and the loyalty and fidelity of their sons to their homeland.
The Union also proudly recalled its national role during the treacherous Iraqi invasion, noting that it was at the forefront of national institutions standing by legitimacy. It contributed to unifying the ranks of the labor and trade union movement, mobilizing support and endorsement for the Kuwaiti cause in Arab and international labor forums, and exposing the occupation’s practices and violations against Kuwait and its people. It also worked to strengthen communication with fraternal and friendly trade union organizations, mobilizing international positions supporting Kuwait’s right to liberation and the restoration of its sovereignty, firmly believing that defending the homeland is a non-negotiable national duty, and that the labor movement has been and will remain a genuine partner in protecting Kuwait, preserving its gains, and consolidating national unity.
With pride, the Union recalled the honorable national role played by Kuwaiti workers and loyal residents, who participated in protecting state facilities, contributed to the continuity of essential services, and then threw themselves wholeheartedly into the reconstruction and rebuilding phase after liberation, enabling Kuwait to regain its status and leadership in various fields.
The Union expressed its profound appreciation for the historic role played by the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, the National Guard, the Ministry of Interior, firefighters, all security and civil agencies, alongside the valiant Kuwaiti resistance, which embodied the highest meanings of courage and sacrifice in defense of the homeland and its sovereignty.
The General Union also commended the sincere fraternal stances of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, sister and friendly Arab nations, and the international community, which stood with Kuwait’s just cause until liberation was achieved and legitimacy returned to the soil of Kuwait.
It reiterated its rejection of all forms of aggression, occupation, and violation of state sovereignty, calling for respect for the rules of international law and the UN Charter, and the consolidation of values of peace, cooperation, and good neighborliness, to ensure security and stability for the peoples of the region and the world.
The General Union of Kuwaiti Workers affirmed that this anniversary will remain an eternal national lesson passed down through generations, to consolidate values of loyalty, belonging, and national unity, and to enhance the spirit of responsibility in defending the homeland, preserving its security, stability, and achievements.
In conclusion, the Union renewed its pledge and loyalty to His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince, and pledged to God and then to the homeland that the General Union of Kuwaiti Workers, professional unions, labor unions, the Kuwaiti labor movement, and the working class in Kuwait will remain loyal to the nation, defending its security, stability, and national unity, praying to Almighty God to protect Kuwait, its leadership and people, to perpetuate upon it the blessings of security, safety, honor, and prosperity, to have mercy on the righteous martyrs, and to protect it from all evil, harm, and misfortune.
