Egyptian Foreign Minister Discusses Regional Developments and De-escalation Efforts with His Qatari and Iraqi Counterparts

Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty held separate phone calls with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Iraqi Foreign Minister Fawzi Hussein to discuss regional developments and ways to de-escalate tensions and enhance diplomatic efforts to contain them.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the call with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman covered the outcomes of communications and diplomatic efforts aimed at advancing the de-escalation process, with both sides reviewing recent regional and international moves to contain escalation in the region.

The statement added that the two sides also discussed the repercussions of the resumption of military operations, emphasizing the importance of intensifying efforts to de-escalate, return to the negotiation track, prioritize political and diplomatic solutions, and respect the rules of international law, thereby contributing to the peaceful settlement of regional crises.

In the call with the Iraqi Foreign Minister, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and build on the momentum characterizing Egyptian-Iraqi ties, which would enhance cooperation prospects in various fields, alongside continuing coordination and consultation on regional issues of mutual interest.

The statement noted that the two sides exchanged views on recent developments in the region, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts to de-escalate, promote dialogue, support de-escalation efforts, and settle crises through political and diplomatic means, thereby preserving the security and stability of the region and sparing it further tension.

The call also addressed developments in the Palestinian territories, where Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of fully implementing the obligations of the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan, which would contribute to ensuring full access for humanitarian aid and preparing conditions for transitioning to subsequent phases.

In a related development, a statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Minister Fawzi Hussein expressed his country’s condemnation of the attack targeting two ships inside the Port of Damietta by a drone, affirming Iraq’s solidarity with Egypt and its rejection of anything that threatens the security of civilian facilities and the safety of navigation.

On another note, Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty and the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nikolay Mladenov, discussed arrangements for the next phase in the Gaza Strip on Sunday.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that this came during a phone call between the two sides as part of consultation and coordination regarding recent developments in the Gaza Strip.

The statement said the call covered developments in negotiations to complete the implementation of the obligations of the US President’s peace plan for Gaza.

It added that the Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the importance of implementing all first-phase obligations, including the full, safe, and sustainable access of humanitarian aid, and the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Strip, leading to early recovery and reconstruction.

He emphasized the importance of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza commencing its duties from within the Gaza Strip to efficiently manage the transitional phase and preserve the unity of Palestinian territories.

Minister Abdelatty stressed in the statement the importance of all parties honoring their commitments as stipulated in the plan and refraining from taking any measures that could undermine its implementation process, thereby contributing to achieving security and stability and opening the way to restoring security and stability in the region.
