Closure of 10 Looting Cases Investigated by Criminal Investigation in Al-Farwaniya

Kuwait City Criminal Investigation Department officers in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh closed 10 cases of theft involving impersonation of police officers, following the arrest of an illegal resident in the Al-Rey area. Police also seized a vehicle from him that had been reported stolen using the same criminal modus operandi—impersonating security personnel and committing robbery.

A security source stated that the suspect was referred to the Public Prosecution, which charged him with three offenses: theft, impersonation of police officers, and drug use. The source noted that the drug-related charge stemmed from the suspect’s own admission that he targeted expatriates, particularly Asians, to fund his drug addiction.

The source added that the suspect’s apprehension followed several reports in the Farwaniya Governorate, including three cases filed at the Jleeb police station. In these reports, expatriates alleged that a man wearing a national uniform stopped them, demanded their official identification documents under the pretense of being a police officer, and then asked them to visit the police station to retrieve their wallets after handing them over.

The source explained that, in response to these reports, authorities identified cases executed in the same manner. Seven similar cases were found registered in Hawalli and Farwaniya, prompting the formation of a task force to identify the vehicle used by the suspect.

Further intelligence indicated that the vehicle used in the crimes was located in a high-end commercial complex, leading to the setup of a sting operation. The vehicle and the suspect were subsequently arrested. It was confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to carrying out the robberies. The suspect was also presented in a lineup to the victims, who positively identified him.
