Kuwait's Martyrs... Eternal Feats

“The Kuwaiti Prisoners and Missing Persons” case, that noble humanitarian issue, remains an open wound and a persistent pain, occupying the highest priority and topping the state’s agenda. Kuwait’s efforts within this framework have yielded numerous positive outcomes. Last June, His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, tasked His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, with heading the Kuwaiti delegation, representing His Highness the Amir, at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, from September 22 to 28, 2026, to follow up on intensive efforts with international actors to implement Security Council Resolution 2792 (2025) concerning the file of Kuwaiti missing persons and third-country nationals, and the return of Kuwaiti property, including the National Archives. The mandate also aims to strengthen efforts to achieve tangible progress in the search for Kuwaiti missing persons, given that this issue holds the highest priority for Kuwait due to its national and humanitarian dimensions.

This year also witnessed Kuwait’s active participation in the annual open debate on the protection of civilians held in the UN Security Council, as part of the ninth edition of the Protection of Civilians Week held last May. During the session, Ambassador Sheikhah Jawaher Al-Duwaikh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Human Rights Affairs, emphasized that Kuwait attaches special importance to the issue of persons missing in armed conflicts, citing Kuwait’s continued intensive efforts to search for its missing and ascertain their fate, in fulfillment of the rights of affected families and in adherence to the principles of justice and human dignity.
