Upcoming Solar Eclipse in August: Rare Astronomical Phenomenon Visible in Several Arab Countries

Skywatchers are preparing to witness an exceptional event on August 12, 2026, as a total solar eclipse will be visible in specific regions, coinciding with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. This rare sight combines two astronomical phenomena within a few hours. According to National Post, the total eclipse will be visible in parts of Greenland, Iceland, Spain, and the Atlantic Ocean, while a partial eclipse will be observable across most of Europe, parts of North America, and northwestern Africa.

In the Arab world, residents of several countries will be able to see the partial eclipse to varying degrees. The sun’s obscuration is expected to reach high levels in parts of Algeria and Morocco, and it will also be visible in Tunisia and Mauritania, as well as in parts of northwestern Africa. Hours after the eclipse ends, the Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak in a moonless sky, offering enthusiasts the chance to observe two simultaneous astronomical events.
