AFC announces support for UEFA and CONCACAF in their rejection of FIFA's project

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Friday its support for the positions of UEFA and CONCACAF, which oppose FIFA’s project to establish a commercial company open to private sector investors.

In a statement, the continental confederation, which comprises 47 members, said: “In light of the positions expressed by UEFA and CONCACAF, as well as the unprecedented divisions that have emerged in the world of football, the AFC believes that the proposed ‘FIFA Forward Enterprise’ project cannot realistically achieve the broad consensus and unity necessary to move forward.”

The confederation added that any proposal threatening the unity and global character of the World Cup must be reconsidered, following UEFA’s threat to boycott FIFA competitions.
