Pearl bracelet stolen from a jewelry store in Al-Mubarakiya: Capital Criminal Investigations: “It fell into my bag by mistake!”

Abdullah Qanais: Officers of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations, represented by the Capital District Investigations, arrested a woman residing in the country illegally, less than 48 hours after she stole a gold bracelet from a jewelry store in Souq Al-Mubarakiya, following her attempt to sell it at a gold shop in the Farwaniya area.

In detail, a security source stated that the owner of a jewelry store in Souq Al-Mubarakiya filed a report indicating that an unidentified woman, wearing a black abaya and niqab, entered the store. She feigned interest in purchasing gold ornaments, then took advantage of the seller’s distraction to steal a gold bracelet valued at approximately 500 dinars before leaving the premises. Security forces were also provided with a video recording documenting the theft.

The source added that Capital District Investigations officers immediately began investigative procedures upon receiving the report, circulating descriptions of the stolen bracelet to all gold shops, a move that contributed to the swift identification of the suspect.

He clarified that less than 48 hours later, the Interior Ministry’s Operations Room received a report from an employee at a gold shop in Farwaniya, stating that a woman had arrived offering a bracelet for sale, matching the description of the stolen item. Officers immediately proceeded to the location, where they arrested her, discovering that she was residing in the country illegally.

The source noted that the suspect initially denied committing the theft during early interrogations, claiming she was surprised to find the bracelet had accidentally fallen into her bag. However, upon being confronted with surveillance camera footage, she confessed to the crime and admitted that she had a habit of stealing gold ornaments by deceiving shopkeepers.

She further confessed to committing other thefts using the same method over the past few months, details of which are currently being compiled. She explained that she disposed of the stolen goods by selling them to a gold shop.

The source concluded that the suspect has been referred to the competent authorities to complete legal proceedings against her, while investigations continue to apprehend the gold shop owner suspected of purchasing the stolen ornaments.
