Sisi: Competent authorities have launched investigations to ascertain the details and circumstances of the Damietta Port incident

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi emphasized the danger of the escalation currently gripping the region, stressing the necessity of united efforts to halt it. This came during a telephone conversation between al-Sisi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated that the Spanish Prime Minister opened the call by expressing his country’s condemnation of the incident involving two ships at the Port of Damietta, which resulted from a drone attack. He affirmed Spain’s solidarity, both governmental and popular, with Egypt during this critical juncture.

El-Shenawy noted that the Egyptian President clarified that relevant authorities are conducting investigations to ascertain the details and circumstances of the incident. He highlighted the severity of the regional escalation and reiterated the need for coordinated efforts among Egypt, Spain, Europe, and the international community to stop the escalation.

The spokesperson added that the call also addressed developments in the regional situation, with Egypt outlining its efforts aimed at restoring stability to the region. The Spanish Prime Minister expressed deep appreciation for these efforts, and both sides emphasized the importance of peaceful resolution of conflicts to preserve peace and security in the Middle East.

In this context, the Spanish Prime Minister stressed the necessity for the United Nations to play its role in halting the ongoing war, while also underscoring the importance of reaching a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution.

During the call, President al-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Spain regarding the recent wildfires that affected certain Spanish regions. He conveyed his sincere condolences to the victims of the crisis and wished the injured a speedy recovery. Al-Sisi emphasized Egypt’s readiness to provide all forms of support to assist the Spanish side in confronting these challenges, expressing confidence in Spain’s ability to overcome them, and wishing the country continued prosperity and well-being.

In a separate matter, President al-Sisi congratulated the Spanish Prime Minister on the Spanish national football team’s victory in the FIFA World Cup.

The spokesperson noted that the Spanish Prime Minister expressed profound appreciation for President al-Sisi’s initiative to call and convey Egypt’s message of support during this delicate moment for his country. He affirmed the deep historical bilateral relations between Egypt and Spain at both official and popular levels, and expressed his aspiration to continue working toward enhancing relations and cooperation between the two countries across various political and economic fields.
