Kuwait University: Admission of 8,409 students for the first semester of the 2026-2027 academic year
Alaa Khalifa: Dr. Fadel Abbas Aziz, Acting Dean of Admissions and Registration at Kuwait University, announced that the process of distributing admission applications for Kuwaiti students who are high school graduates and meet the admission requirements has been completed during the application period for the 2026-2027 academic year. A total of 8,409 male and female students were admitted. He emphasized that all students who selected all their preferred majors, provided they met the admission criteria for those majors, were accepted.
He clarified that this figure does not include students admitted through external scholarships, Abdullah Al-Salem University, or those whose equivalent GPA or secondary school percentage did not match the minimum thresholds for their chosen majors, as determined by the fixed quotas for each specialization. He noted that these students may submit a new admission application for the upcoming second semester at a date to be announced later by the Dean of Admissions and Registration. According to the University Council’s decision, no modifications can be made to the majors specified in the admission application after the deadline for submitting applications has passed.
To ensure transparency in the admission process, the equivalent GPAs and minimum secondary school percentages required for admission to all colleges and majors have been published. The numerical code associated with each student’s name corresponds to the major they were admitted to; students can identify their major by referring to the table of minimum percentages, where the numerical code is listed alongside the major name. Students can also verify their admitted major by accessing their admission application or through the “Sahl” application.
He further emphasized that competition for seats in all colleges was based solely on the equivalent GPA or secondary school percentage, without any distinction between male and female applicants. The equivalent GPA is calculated based on the results of the academic aptitude tests required for each college, which each student takes prior to enrollment, in addition to their secondary school percentage.
Dr. Fadel Aziz explained that Kuwaiti high school graduates from the unified system and the Religious Institute, who applied online, as well as Kuwaiti applicants who submitted their applications in person at the Admissions and Registration Hall, must pay a fee of 10 dinars via the KNET payment system after the admission results are announced. This payment is required to validate their admission to Kuwait University through the electronic admission system. These students are not required to visit the Admissions and Registration Hall to submit documents.
In contrast, Kuwaiti graduates of American and British high schools must visit the Admissions and Registration Hall to submit their documents and validate their admission between August 2, 2026, and August 6, 2026, according to specific time slots communicated via SMS.
The Acting Dean of Admissions and Registration stated that Kuwaiti students expected to graduate from British high schools in Kuwait, who submitted their university admission applications electronically within the specified deadlines, must submit their final results to the Dean of Admissions and Registration within two working days of the announcement of their results. Their admission will be granted according to the minimum thresholds published for the respective colleges and majors. He confirmed that these students have equal chances of admission compared to their peers who completed their documentation during the application submission period.
The Dean of Admissions and Registration has set the date for new students to register for courses starting from August 9, 2026. Each new student will be assigned a specific registration time slot, which will be sent to them via SMS to their mobile phones.
