Kuwait-Pakistan coordination to de-escalate tensions

Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and Kuwait’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Jaraah Al-Jaber, discussed the historic bilateral relations between the two countries and their peoples, as well as ways to elevate and strengthen cooperation across various fields. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the two sides discussed, during Sheikh Jaraah Al-Jaber’s official visit to the capital Islamabad, the latest regional developments and efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability in the region.

According to the statement, Sheikh Jaraah Al-Jaber expressed Kuwait’s appreciation for the active diplomatic role played by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in supporting regional security and stability.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Jaraah Al-Jaber, also met with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Muhammad Ishaq Dar. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in all areas and intensifying coordination and consultation across various levels, contributing to advancing bilateral relations to higher levels. The meeting also covered the latest regional developments and efforts aimed at de-escalation in the region.

Sheikh Jaraah Al-Jaber further met with the Chief of Army Staff and Commander of the Armed Forces of the friendly Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Field Marshal Asim Munir. The meeting emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen cooperation frameworks and intensifying coordination and consultation in various fields, particularly in defense and security.

On a separate note, the Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that its armed forces, in coordination with the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), carried out targeted strikes against facilities belonging to Iran-backed militant groups responsible for attacks on petroleum installations in the Kingdom. It stated that the Kingdom “does not seek escalation, but will respond to any aggression it faces.” The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the strikes were carried out in exercise of the right of self-defense guaranteed under international law, specifically Article 51 of the UN Charter.

CENTCOM announced that, in cooperation with Saudi forces, it conducted “precision strikes in Iraq against Iran-backed terrorists, whom the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps had directed to attack U.S. forces and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.” CENTCOM added in a statement that “U.S. and Saudi fighter jets launched raids targeting logistical sites and weapons depots belonging to terrorists in eastern Iraq.”

In parallel, the U.S. and Jordanian militaries announced the interception and downing of five Iranian missiles targeting Jordanian territory. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump vowed to “strike Iran with force and leave them to continue talking.”

He said, “We will teach them a harsh lesson,” describing the attack on Jordan as “a surprise attack” and labeling “Iran-backed militias as the cancer of the world.”

Meanwhile, the U.S. Treasury Department announced the issuance of “new sanctions against entities linked to Iran,” while the U.S. State Department stated, “We will work with allies to diplomatically and economically isolate Iran until it ceases its destabilizing behavior and ensures it cannot hold international trade hostage to fund its activities.”
