Spain Commemorates Its Second Global Star with Limited-Edition Silver Coin

The Spanish Royal Mint is preparing to issue a commemorative silver coin to celebrate Spain’s national team winning its second FIFA World Cup title in 2026, after defeating Argentina 1-0 in the final match held on July 19 in New Jersey. According to Euronews, the coin carries a face value of 5 euros and is part of the official coin program associated with the tournament. The obverse features King Felipe VI and the year of issue, 2026, while the reverse displays the tournament trophy, the logo of the 2026 World Cup, two stars symbolizing Spain’s two world titles, and the colors of the Spanish flag. The coin is struck in 925 sterling silver, weighs 13.5 grams, has a diameter of 33 millimeters, and has a maximum mintage of 50,000 pieces. The coin is scheduled to be released to collectors in early August at a listed price of 60.33 euros before tax. This issuance comes 16 years after Spain released a coin commemorating its first World Cup title in South Africa in 2010, incorporating the new sporting achievement into Spain’s numismatic heritage.
