A black hole dubbed by scientists as the 'Cooker' may alter the fate of a galaxy named the 'Red Potato'

A team of researchers has revealed new findings suggesting that a supermassive black hole, dubbed “The Chef” by scientists, may be influencing the evolution of a distant galaxy known as “The Red Potato” by disrupting the conditions necessary for star formation. A scientific report published by Al Jazeera, citing the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics, stated that scientists used data from the Chandra X-ray Observatory to detect a high-energy jet emanating from a black hole in a nearby galaxy and directed toward the distant galaxy.

The Red Potato galaxy, previously discovered by the James Webb Space Telescope, is located approximately 11.7 billion light-years from Earth and is surrounded by large quantities of cold gas—an environment thought to be conducive to star formation. However, researchers suggest that the jet emitted by the black hole heats this gas and creates turbulence, potentially limiting its ability to cool and condense, which are essential processes for the birth of new stars.

The team believes these findings offer new insights into how galaxies and black holes influence the evolution of neighboring galaxies during the early stages of the universe’s history, emphasizing that these interpretations are based on the current study’s results and that continued research and observation will help enhance our understanding of these cosmic phenomena.
