Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs: Opening of the UN Employment Program Headquarters Reflects Kuwait's Leadership in Development Partnerships

Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila stated that the opening of the headquarters of the United Nations Joint Programme to Support and Enhance Employment and Comprehensive Rehabilitation in Kuwait represents a strategic step that embodies the state’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the United Nations and consolidating a developmental partnership approach.

Dr. Al-Huwaila emphasized in her speech during the headquarters’ inauguration at Abdullah Al-Salem University that the program reflects Kuwait’s vision in supporting humanitarian and social work, and enhances the Ministry of Social Affairs’ efforts to develop an integrated system for social and health inclusion by providing specialized services to target groups in partnership with government entities and national institutions.

She added that the program’s success relies on the integration of roles among the Ministries of Social Affairs, Interior, and Health, in collaboration with United Nations organizations, contributing to the delivery of specialized services in care, rehabilitation, and empowerment, and enhancing the effective and sustainable participation of beneficiaries in society. She expressed her appreciation to the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development for its support of the project and to Abdullah Al-Salem University for hosting the headquarters, affirming that this partnership represents a national model of institutional cooperation.

For her part, UN Deputy Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator in Kuwait, Ghada Taher, emphasized in her speech that the program represents an advanced model of strategic partnership between Kuwait and the UN system, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting social and health inclusion. She stated that the opening of the headquarters marks the launch of a new phase of cooperation based on unifying efforts among government entities, academic institutions, and civil society to develop integrated social and health services and to build evidence-based policies.

She commended the efforts of the Human Building Association for Social Development in preparing the project and equipping the headquarters, as a key national partner collaborating with the Ministry of Social Affairs and in technical partnership with the World Health Organization, the International Labour Organization, UNESCO, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

The UN Joint Programme aims to unify national and international efforts to develop care, rehabilitation, and empowerment programs, thereby supporting the realization of Kuwait’s Vision 2035 and the Sustainable Development Goals, and enhancing Kuwait’s position as a regional hub for humanitarian partnerships.
