KD 250 million: New tranche of domestic public debt

The Central Bank of Kuwait announced the issuance of treasury bonds and public debt securities, on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, with a total value of 250 million Kuwaiti dinars for a five-year maturity at a yield of 3.25%. The demand for the issuance reached 712 million dinars, equivalent to 2.84 times the size of the offering, reflecting the continued strength of demand for government debt instruments and the confidence of financial institutions and investors in the state’s financial solvency and the quality of its investment instruments. It also highlights the efficiency of domestic public debt management and the distribution of maturities, which supports financial stability and provides flexibility in managing future obligations.

The sustained success of government issuances in achieving high subscription rates underscores the strong confidence in Kuwaiti debt instruments in the local market, while also confirming the resilience of the banking sector, ample liquidity levels, and its capacity to efficiently finance the state’s needs.

With the addition of the latest issuance, the total outstanding domestic public debt rises to approximately 3.7 billion dinars, distributed across various maturities ranging from two to ten years. Distributing maturities over periods between two and ten years contributes to enhancing the sustainability of public debt management, mitigating refinancing risks, aligning with best practices in portfolio management, and strengthening fiscal flexibility in the face of economic changes, while maintaining the state’s ability to meet its obligations on time without significant pressure.
