Minister of Supply: Achieving the highest levels of operational efficiency in the Direct Deduction System
As part of the continuous monitoring of the regular operation of the subsidized local bread system, Dr. Sherif Farouq, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, held a meeting with Abdullah Gharab, Chairman of the General Union of Bakeries, to follow up on the progress of work in subsidized municipal bakeries across the country and to review the latest preparations for implementing the direct deduction system, ensuring the continued regularity of the system and achieving the highest levels of operational efficiency.
During the meeting, the Minister emphasized that the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade is committed to maintaining coordination and consultation with all stakeholders involved in the subsidized bread production system, foremost among them the General Union of Bakeries, as a key partner in the system’s success. This cooperation contributes to enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring production stability, and continuing to provide citizens with services at the highest levels of quality and regularity.
The meeting reviewed the implementation status of the direct deduction system. It was reaffirmed that the system represents an organizational and accounting development aimed at tightening the workflow among all parties involved in the production and distribution of subsidized bread, strengthening governance and transparency, and achieving speed and accuracy in financial settlements. This enhances performance efficiency and ensures the regularity of the workflow, without any changes to the mechanisms by which citizens obtain subsidized bread, nor any impact on the price of a loaf of bread or the rights of beneficiaries under the subsidy system.
Dr. Sherif Farouq stressed that the implementation of the system aligns with the Ministry’s plan to develop the subsidized bread system using the latest electronic systems, thereby enhancing the accuracy of monitoring and oversight, ensuring the swift completion of financial procedures among all parties involved, and improving resource management efficiency, while fully maintaining system stability and the continuous, regular provision of services to citizens.
The meeting also addressed the readiness of bakeries to handle the system, as well as follow-up plans and technical support during implementation phases, to ensure smooth application of the system and rapid response to any issues that may arise, while maintaining the regular production and distribution of subsidized bread in all governorates.
The Minister expressed confidence in the regular operation of subsidized municipal bakeries nationwide. Abdullah Gharab confirmed that bakeries are operating normally and regularly, with full cooperation between the Ministry and the General Union of Bakeries in monitoring the implementation of the system. Continuous communication channels are in place to resolve any obstacles, ensuring uninterrupted production and no disruption to services provided to citizens.
The Chairman of the General Union of Bakeries noted that the relationship between the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade and the Union is based on continuous cooperation and coordination, serving the interests of both bakery owners and citizens. He praised the Ministry’s commitment to dialogue with union representatives and listening to various proposals and observations, which contributes to ensuring the successful implementation of the system and achieving its objectives.
