390 Kuwaiti Dinars stolen from an expatriate by a person impersonating a detective

Ahmed Khamees: An Asian national fell victim to a fraud and theft scheme after being stopped by an unidentified individual who impersonated a security officer in the Ali Sabah Al-Salem area, stealing 390 dinars before fleeing.

According to a security source, the victim, born in 1987, filed a report stating that a man claiming to be from the Criminal Investigation Department asked to see his personal identification, then searched his vehicle under the pretext of suspecting drug use, before seizing the cash he was carrying and speeding away from the scene.

The source added that the victim provided the authorities with details of the vehicle used by the perpetrator, with speculation that the car may have been stolen or that its license plates were fraudulent.

Following the report, a case was registered at the Ali Sabah Al-Salem Police Station under the charge of “theft and impersonation of security personnel.” The case file was referred to the Criminal Investigation Sector to take the necessary legal actions and track down the suspect, in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic, which maintains a comprehensive database of vehicles, their owners, and theft reports.

The source emphasized the importance of verifying the identity of any individual in civilian clothing claiming to be a security officer, noting that directives issued to all Criminal Investigation Department personnel require them to present their official identification and allow those detained sufficient time to verify the security credentials.
