Salah's Move to Besiktas.. Stumbles
Turkish club Besiktas announced the temporary suspension of negotiations with Mohamed Salah due to “financial demands made by the Egyptian star’s agent.”
Besiktas sporting director Onur Ozin, in statements relayed by the Turkish Anadolu Agency, said: “The club contacted Salah after his announcement of departure from English club Liverpool. Following a comprehensive study of the economic feasibility and potential commercial returns of the deal, we found it suitable for our club, and negotiations began.”
He added: “The club prepared a financial model to finalize the deal, taking into account the player’s sporting and commercial value. We held three meetings with Mohamed Salah, and discussions proceeded smoothly until we moved to the financial aspects. Things were going well up to that point, but the pace of negotiations slowed down since financial discussions began on July 21, and demands emerged that could disrupt the talks. I can assume that a respected professional like Salah was unaware of them, as players typically do not intervene in such matters. There is also the issue of image rights, which represents a financial demand the club has never accepted from any player or staff member. The club has a specific policy and cannot deviate from it; Besiktas is a club governed by principles.”
Ozin noted that “the club’s president took a correct stance and adhered to it. Player management is a legal business with a legal commission, but exceeding this commission could mean involvement in an illegal matter. Therefore, the president made a realistic decision rather than a populist one, and temporarily withdrew from the negotiations.”
Turkish media reports also indicated that the file of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah’s transfer to Besiktas has not been definitively closed, despite the stalled negotiations in recent days, confirming that the player is preparing to make a final decision in the coming days. According to the same sources, Mohamed Salah will finalize his position regarding Besiktas’ offer in the near future, having expressed a positive impression of the club’s project and his desire to wear the team’s jersey during the negotiation sessions.
