Al Jazeera launches direct flights to Addis Ababa

Jazeera Airways announced the launch of a direct flight route between Kuwait and the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, starting on September 7, with three weekly flights. This move strengthens the airline’s growing network of destinations and supports its expansion in Africa, particularly in Ethiopia, which is one of the fastest-growing economies in East Africa. With an Ethiopian community of over 70,000 residents in Kuwait, this new direct route offers them an easy way to travel to their homeland to visit family and friends.

At the launch event, Dr. Saeed Mohammed Jaber, Ambassador of the Republic of Ethiopia to Kuwait, said, “The launch of direct flights between Kuwait and Addis Ababa marks an important milestone in strengthening the historical ties between Ethiopia and Kuwait. These flights will bring the two peoples closer, facilitate trade and investment, boost tourism, and enhance cultural exchange. We welcome Jazeera Airways to Ethiopia and look forward to the promising opportunities this route will provide, benefiting both countries.”

The launch of this route supports the expansion of commercial, investment, and tourism relations between Kuwait and Ethiopia. Addis Ababa serves as the political and diplomatic capital of the African continent, hosting the African Union, and is also a major commercial hub and a key gateway to various parts of the continent.

On his part, Jazeera Airways CEO Parathan Pasupathy stated, “Addis Ababa is more than just a new destination; it is the diplomatic capital of Africa. Ethiopia is known as the ‘Cradle of Humanity,’ the birthplace of coffee, and one of the world’s oldest civilizations. By connecting Kuwait to Addis Ababa, Jazeera Airways opens a gateway to one of Africa’s largest and fastest-growing markets, while also meeting the demand from the growing African community in Kuwait and strengthening commercial, tourism, and cultural ties between Gulf countries and the African continent.”

Addis Ababa is an ideal tourist destination for travelers seeking new experiences, combining rich history with a vibrant cultural and artistic scene. It features world-class museums, a deep-rooted coffee culture, and distinctive Ethiopian cuisine. The city also serves as an ideal starting point for exploring Ethiopia’s diverse natural landscapes and UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Located in the Ethiopian Highlands, Addis Ababa enjoys a mild climate year-round, with temperatures typically ranging from about 8°C to 25°C, making it a suitable destination for travelers from Kuwait throughout the year.
