US Central Command, in collaboration with the UAE, launches the first task force to accelerate the development of military artificial intelligence

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced an agreement with the United Arab Emirates to establish the first bilateral task force focused on accelerating the development of artificial intelligence applications in the military domain. In a statement, CENTCOM said that the official launch of the U.S.-Emirati Task Force Talon Synapse is scheduled for the coming weeks. The team, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, will include approximately 20 American and Emirati experts specializing in artificial intelligence, data, and cybersecurity.

Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, stated, “This step marks a historic milestone in our cooperation with one of our most capable regional partners, aimed at accelerating the delivery of the latest AI technologies to our military forces.” He added, “We share with our Emirati partners a firm commitment to adopting AI applications that enhance innovation at a rapid pace and on a broad scale.”

Admiral Cooper and His Highness Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Advisor of the UAE, discussed the idea of establishing the task force last year. Additionally, during its visit to the region last month, CENTCOM held meetings with several leaders in the AI sector and UAE defense officials.

The task force will focus on integrating AI applications to support intelligence operations, protect critical infrastructure, and monitor the regional security environment.
