The Saudi Cabinet condemns terrorist militia attacks, backed by Iran, on oil facilities in Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and ships in the Red Sea
Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud chaired the Council of Ministers meeting held in Jeddah.
At the outset of the session, the Crown Prince briefed the Council of Ministers on the contents of telephone conversations with His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The discussions reviewed recent developments in the regional situation and the efforts undertaken to enhance the security and stability of the region.
The Council strongly condemned the attacks by Iran-backed terrorist militias in Yemen and Iraq on oil facilities in the Riyadh and Eastern regions, as well as on commercial vessels in the Red Sea. It reaffirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia would not tolerate threats to its security, national interests, and resources, and would respond decisively to any hostile acts in accordance with international humanitarian law, customary rules, and the principle of proportionality.
The Council emphasized the necessity for the Iraqi government to take all necessary measures to prevent its territory from being used as a launching pad for aggression. It appreciated the positions of world countries and international organizations condemning the criminal attacks, which were effectively and competently countered by the Kingdom’s air defenses.
Following the session, Minister of Education and Acting Minister of Media Yousuf bin Abdullah Al-Bunyan stated to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the Council of Ministers followed the Kingdom’s continuous efforts to communicate and consult with sister and friendly countries to de-escalate tensions, ensure the security of waterways in the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea, and support initiatives contributing to regional and international stability.
The Council affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to consolidating the approach of dialogue and diplomacy and enhancing joint international action, especially given that the region is undergoing a critical phase requiring the establishment of a regional system based on adherence to the fundamental principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, including respect for state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, observance of good-neighborliness principles, guarantee of freedom of navigation, and compliance with international law.
The Council of Ministers reviewed items on its agenda and approved a memorandum of understanding between the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Government of the State of Kuwait in the fields of science, technology, and innovation. It also approved a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of food security between the General Authority for Food Safety in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Municipality in the State of Qatar.
