Ministry of Islamic Affairs: Applications Open for Imam, Imam and Khateeb, and Muazzin Positions

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced the registration period for the written examination for the positions of Imam, Imam and Preacher, and Muazzin, open exclusively to Kuwaiti nationals, from August 3 to September 30, 2026, or until the required number of candidates is filled.

The Ministry set October 6, 2027, as the date for the written examination, subject to specific conditions for the positions of Imam and Imam and Preacher. Candidates must be Kuwaiti nationals and hold a university degree in Sharia or higher, having memorized at least five juz’ (parts) of the Holy Quran, including Juz’ Amma, with proficiency in Tajweed and recitation rules.

Alternatively, candidates may hold a non-Sharia university degree or higher, having memorized at least ten juz’ of the Holy Quran, including Juz’ Amma, with proficiency in Tajweed and recitation rules. They may also hold a secondary school certificate or its equivalent, or a certificate from a Quran House, provided they have memorized the entire Holy Quran with proficiency in Tajweed and recitation rules. Qualifications obtained outside Kuwait must be authenticated by the relevant government authorities.

For both positions, applicants must be at least 21 years old. Retirees are required to hold a secondary school certificate or higher, or a certificate from a Quran House, along with memorizing at least five juz’ of the Holy Quran, including Juz’ Amma, with proficiency in Tajweed and recitation rules.

Regarding the position of Muazzin, applicants must be Kuwaiti nationals and hold a certificate not lower than a religious institute secondary school certificate, a general secondary school certificate or its equivalent, or a certificate from a Quran House. Qualifications obtained outside Kuwait must be authenticated by the relevant government authorities.

For the change of job title from Muazzin to Imam, the Ministry stipulated that the applicant must be a Kuwaiti national, have served as a Muazzin for at least 15 years, and have memorized at least 15 juz’ of the Holy Quran.
